Micah's here!

Micah arrived on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 2:47pm via C-Section. He was 6 pounds and 7 ounces and was 20 inches long! His head was 33 inches. I cried when I first heard his cry. It was almost as if I couldn't believe he was finally here.

Labor and Delivery really was difficult for me. On Saturday, March 20, 2010, I lost my mucus plug at 8:20am and started having contractions every hour. By 4:00 pm they were coming at 10 minute intervals. By 5:00pm, they came at 5 minute intervals. My really good friend and next door neighbor Rebecca Steen had been with me all day. She was prepared to take me to the hospital. Kristin Reid, my cousin, sat with me all day awaiting on time for me to go to the hospital as well.. Rebecca went cleaning crazy at my house and did ALL the laundry and put it up. I was so exhausted that I couldn't even argue with her. I texted family members and told them we were heading to the hospital at 6:00pm. Noelle and Althea met me at the hospital. Rico was at work and was meeting us there as well. I really thought it was going well.
When we got to the hospital, I sat in triage for about two hours and they admitted me. I was 3cm dilated and 90% effaced. However Micah was still at a +2 station meaning he had not dropped. I went from 6:30pm-1:30am having off the chart contractions with no epideral. When they checked me at 1:30am and said I had only dilated 1cm, I opted for the epideral! I am not sure if the epideral slowed everything down or not seeing as how I didn't dilated that much anyway. At 5:00am, they broke my water and started pitocin at 7:00am. At 11:00am I had only dilated one more centemeter. The Dr said that I could get a C-Section at that point, but I wanted to wait it out. Trust me, it was painful! The epideral had started to wear off and I was feeling these off the chart contractions again. In addition, they gave me a catheter, because I wasn't allowed to walk and that was very painful! At 2:00pm, no progress, I was at the most 6cm dilated so they gave me a C-Section. It was fast! They put me in OR and Rico said he saw them put my organs on the top of my chest, CRAZY! But they numbed me so much that I couldn't feel above my neck. I was unable to breathe. Rico said they went from talking normally to whispering. I was getting scared. I could not catch my breath. I then needed to throw up and was horrified, because I couldn't move my head and was scared I was going to throw up in my mouth and choke on it! But then I heard Micah's first cry. I cried. That made it even more difficult to breathe! They sent Rico out with baby Micah and finished stitching me up. Everyone there was able to really see Micah before me, because I had to stay in recovery. This definitely was not a fun experience.
Having this C-Section, I cannot lift anything except for the baby. I hate not being able to do things for myself. But Everyone is so helpful! Rebecca is still coming and helping me do stuff around the house. Aunt Val cooked dinner for us the last two nights and Aunt Mo came and washed dishes, cleaned the bathroom and swept my floors today. Rico is cleaning, doing laundry, going grocery shopping, and he wakes up with Micah so I can get some sleep! I have the very best family and friends ever! Rico's so encouraging. I am not depressed, but I have had the hardest time breastfeeding. I beat myself up for it. Micah just doesn't want to take it. He likes formula better. And Rico just supports me no matter what happens. I have the very best husband.
Labor and Delivery was hard for me, but my family and friends have made this time bareable. I really feel loved. And I really LOVE my baby boy.
